Description

This family-owned brewery has been running for more than 110 years in Fushimi, Kyoto where is well known for its some of the purest underground spring water. Sakamai, or rice used in producing Sake, is quite different from the regular rice consumed for food. IWAIMAI is one of the special Sakamai in Japan. Eikun is the only Sake maker in Kyoto permitted to use IWAIMAI.

Since the 1890’s, there has been an annual competition called “Shinshu Kanpyou-Kai” – National New Sake Competition (now called National Competition) – where sake quality is judged. Eikun has received the gold medal for their sake an unprecedented 14 years in a row. Only 20-25% of all Kura receive gold medals each year. In addition, no Kura or brewery has received the award 14 times consecutively. The National Competition is attended by 90% of all 1,300 Kura in Japan.

TYPE: Speciality Ginjo Sake

COLOUR: Pale cloudy lemon yellow.

OUR TASTING NOTES: Lemonade, pineapple with zingy yuzu acidity on the nose and palate we’ve yet to find anyone who doesn’t adore this Sake!

FOOD PAIRING: On the rock’s aperitif, Seafood paella, Chicken pizza, Vegetarian and Vegan cuisines, Tempura and summer platters.

SERVING SUGGESTIONS: Serve chilled (8-12 ºC)

STORAGE: Store in a dry and cool place. Avoid direct sunlight.
